Family Session, Cottonwood Falls - Nelson, BC
There’s something really special about documenting the “in-between” seasons, ones that feel a little fleeting, a little tender, and full of quiet anticipation. This recent family session at Cottonwood Falls Park was exactly that: a beautiful pause before everything changes.
A Family Session in Nelson, BC
As a family photographer based near Nelson, I often get to witness these transitions. This sweet family of three is about to become a family of four, and they wanted to hold onto this chapter just a little longer, to remember what life feels like right now.
Their session took place at Cottonwood Falls Park, a beautiful location for a family photography session in the West Kootenays. With the sound of rushing water and blossoms in full bloom, it was a lovely place to capture their laughter, love and connection.
Capturing the In-Between Season
There’s a sweet kind of magic at this stage, before the second child comes. A familiar rhythm that's about to change, it's truly bittersweet, and you can't know that until you look back. I remember mourning the loss of our family of three while being so excited for the baby to join us.
We kept things simple for this shoot, no pressure, no perfectly posed moments. Just time together. Walking and dancing together, little giggles, pauses to snuggle, and those small in-between moments that say everything.
This is why I love lifestyle family sessions, we're capturing connection over perfection.
Planning Your Family Session in the West Kootenays
If you’re looking for a family photography session, locations like Cottonwood Falls Park offer a naturally beautiful setting without needing anything elaborate. Whether it’s a walk in the park, an evening by the water, or simply time spent together outdoors, your photos don’t need to be a big production. The most meaningful images come from presence, connection, and letting things unfold naturally.
A Season Worth Remembering
This session felt soft, slow, and full of love. To this beautiful, soon-to-be family of four, thank you for trusting me to capture this chapter. One day, I hope these photos will remind you of how it felt to be a family of three.
